The paper goes on to discusses how the steady advance of globalization and technological innovation has meant that the sturdy, adequately remunerative manufacturing jobs that were in abundance up until the beginning of the 1970s are now gone or vanishing. More than that, millions of Americans and millions more outside America's borders are forced into what can best be described as an "informal" economy bereft of benefits, pensions, health care or training - all because the volatility of a global market wherein jobs are outsourced daily.
