A common misconception in regard to geography is that it pertains principally to the study of maps; that its main focus is defining location and that its secondary focus is describing the various attributes of that specific location. Actually, the study of geography covers a much broader spectrum of academic endeavor. In fact, from simple geography it would probably be--at least, theoretically--possible to extrapolate to all things within the known universe. For example, take the word, geography. The term "geo" is derived from the Greek word for "Earth" (Williams, 1985, p. 383). All things can, in some way, be said to relate to the Earth.
