Paper Summary:

The paper describes how the upper class elites of these three periods often had large tombs built for them, which then housed certain monuments to recollect the most important aspects of their lives on Earth. Often, these monuments helped give validity to the dead, as they sought a new home through the travels of their immortal souls. The paper portrays how as life is remembered in their physical forms, the travels of the soul were the main aspect of funerary art within monument structures.

"This art study will examine the various funerary monuments found within various tombs of the Egyptian, Grecian and Roman cultures. By examining the burial practices and ideology within these three cultures, one can realize the comparable aspects of a "life after death" that these monuments represent. Throughout the Egyptian Middle Kingdom, the Greek Golden Age and the Roman apogee of Empire, one can realize how three funerary monuments are equally linked in the procession of historical ideology. In essence, three funerary monuments will individually be examined, and explained in how these differing historical periods are linked in their artistic symbolism."
