The paper discusses how investment has long been an activity both admired and feared in the broader society. On the one hand it has been viewed as a certain method of enriching oneself, provided the proper investment strategy is discovered or given the right mix of luck and perspicacity. On the other hand it has been viewed with apprehension since many of the investment vehicles and investment strategies can be arcane and difficult to fathom even for the savvy investor, much less the novitiate. The paper explains that for the first time investor, it is important to acquire the basics of investing as well as the language and terminology prior to entering an investment market.
