1,125 words (approx. 4.5 pages) | 1 source | 2006 United States

Paper Summary:

The paper discusses how Josey's initiative to dispel these myths about women and their inferiority within a labor hierarchy do challenge and overturn the way that men see women in the film. The paper describes how when Josey is able to convince the unions, her friends and her family of her cause, she is then able to find a supporting collective that allows Bill White to follow the class action suit.

From the Paper:

The plot of the film "North Country" (2005) revolves around a female mining community that is seeking equal worker rights and a halt to the sexual harassment they must endure from male workers. The main character, Josey Aimes (Charlize Theron), is one the leaders of this group of women, which represent the first female workers to ever work the mine. When she is constantly harassed by their male counterparts when working in the mines, she decides to stand up and begin a long legal process that will prevent male workers from violating their rights. Josey's father, Hank (Richard Jenkins), plays a part in getting Josey support for class action suit against the mining company. In turn, she gets her friend Glory (Frances McDonald) to help her find a good lawyer in Bill White (Woody Harrelson)."
