With the proliferation of personal computers in the workplace, and the innovations in software development, expert systems are now available for a wide range of applications, including medical, legal, and accounting. Within the accounting field, expert systems have been slow to gain acceptance, in part because of the reluctance of accountants to embrace computer technology, and in part because there is some question as to the reliability of expert systems.
