This paper examines the issues confronting European nations as they attempt to integrate politically. More specifically, the paper focuses on the many issues regarding integration into the European Union that the United Kingdom is facing and stresses the need for a resolution to this problem.

Kavanagh one can easily gain the impression that from the British or United Kingdom point of view there is perhaps a long term pattern forming concerning the shunning of further European integration. However, this is but the viewpoint from within the United Kingdom and is presented by these authors with a political agenda one quickly realizes in reviewing the subject from the conventional viewpoint of the other nations in the European Union. It is moreover, an extremely complex issue and as such must be explored from a broader viewpoint than that prevailing among these and other authors both pro and con within the United Kingdom."
