This seven-page paper examines the issue of ethics in nursing. It provides the reader with a case study about a woman whose fear of needles rendered her unable to consent to a C-section. The writer argues that her fear made her unable to make rationale decisions and, therefore, ethically, the medical professionals had the right to force her to do it.
From the Paper:
"Ethical questions can be difficult because they are often subjective in their nature. Each ethical case study in the nursing field comes with individual circumstances that must be considered when making any decision. Health care professionals have a clear cut duty to do no harm. Sometimes however doing no harm means not allowing a patient to ultimately hurt him or herself by refusing valid and needed treatment . This is why it is so difficult to discuss the questions of ethics in the nursing profession, because each instance is dependent on individual circumstances to make a decision."
