Written in 2004; 1,756 words; 2 sources; MLA; $ 56.95
Paper Summary:
This paper discusses the article by Roger C. Shank on the topic of the Internet and how it has changed the teaching methods and educational system. The article looks at whether teachers are required to impart, not only educational values, but also ethical and moral ones, to their pupils. The article also portrays the negative aspects of gadgets and technology for children and argues that teachers need to be wary of such advances and not assume that all technology is to the benefit of education.
From the Paper:
"The author's opinion of schools developing into community centers would definitely be a worthy goal to strive at. However it seems technology cannot bring about such a transformation as a natural process unless there is a personal undertaking to that effect. That is, whether or not technology develops so much it is in the interest of our society that we must take immediate measures to rectify the gross neglect we have shown towards community activities at schools and earnestly implement such programs. In fact we are already faced with a dangerous problem of "social isolation" affecting the present day children who are more and more addicted to the computer systems and the Television programs, leaving them with very little time for outdoor games and healthy interaction with their peers."
