Paper Summary:

In this article, the writer analyzes the present education model. The writer maintains that it no longer serves our best interests and remains very much what it was when it was created in the 19th century. The writer discusses that as the world has changed so much since then and continues to change, the current educational model is also in need of change. Further, it is argued in this paper that the purpose of the existing model of education was to create factory workers.

"Our education system began thousands of years ago, but for the most part is a representation of a 19th century industrial model. The point then was to turn out workers for the new reality. As we go into the 21st century, and, ever deeper into the global economy, do the model and the purpose continue to serve our interests? The education model that we have no longer serves our best interests. It remains very much what it was when it was created in 19th century. Yet the world has changed so much since then, and continues to change."
