This paper discusses the European Union (EU). The paper looks at the EU's existence for over a decade, as well as its single currency, which has been in use for over five full years. The paper discusses some of the many operational issues of the EU, but suggests that it has largely been a success at managing both its monetary and fiscal policy while at the same time reaching a consensus on trade and economic concerns. ."

The EU's success at executing and implementing its single currency, the Euro, is a model advocate for all regions considering a currency block as an economic solution to global competitiveness. In fact, the EU's single currency, the Euro, is so strong that many analysts expect that, "The international role of the euro will probably equal (or exceed) that of the dollar by 2014 and Euroland, which will probably include all members by then, will insist on a commensurate voice in international monetary decision-making" (Europe par.8)."
