"The modern American workplace is rife with drug use and abuse, leading to the possibility of death and serious injury. For example, the PR Newswire reports that, according to a survey of workers in Pennsylvania, one in five employees knows someone who uses or abuses drugs while at work. The US Department of Labor reports, further, that 10% to 20% of all work-related deaths involve alcohol or other drugs. These facts suggest a problem that affects every American worker, to the extent that roughly 20% of the workplace could be said to be involved in drug use or abuse. When coupled with the high likelihood that inclusion of prescription drugs makes the problem even greater, a definite problem in the American workplace becomes apparent."
