This paper examines domestic violence, which has always been a controversial issue, both within the criminal justice system and throughout American society as a whole. The current debate reviewed in this paper, is over mandatory arrest policies that have generated even more controversy, despite the fact that advocates of mandatory arrest have offered compelling arguments that such a policy could have a significant deterrent effect if it was implemented and strictly enforced by law enforcement personnel.
