This paper discusses how the growing trend of domestic violence is one of great concern and suggests methods that can be instituted by society and the police to help combat this problem. It also discusses the problem of legal intervention at the wrong time and how this can sometimes turn a minor domestic problem into a more serious one.
From the Paper:
"Domestic violence is an issue that pervades not only within the police force community, but within the civil society as well, since this social problem concerns the physical, emotional, and psychological abuse of an individual to another. According to the IACP National Law Enforcement Policy, domestic violence "occurs where a family or household member commits or attempts to commit offenses against another," and these offenses include the following: (1) bodily injury or fear of imminent bodily injury; (2) sexual assault; (3) interference with freedom of movement; (4) a property crime directed at the victim; (5) violation of a court order; or (6) criminal trespass. The following offenses were enumerated in accordance to studies and application of domestic violence cases the police force handled through the years."
