Diverse Society
A discussion regarding adult children returning to their parents home temporarily.
2,250 words (approx. 9 pages) | 4 sources | 2005 United States

Paper Summary:

This paper takes a look at how adult children are now returning home to live with their parents for a temporary period of time, after university or college. This is a relatively modern social trend.

From the Paper:

"As part of a new social trend, adult children are returning to their parents' home to live temporarily. At the present time, more than one-quarter of all adult children return home at least once to reside for a period (Mitchell, Wister & McGee, 2000). Prior to the 1970s, young adults normally left the parental home once they completed high school or by the time of marriage. Since the 1970s, although the general trend has been towards independent living arrangements, there also has been a significant trend towards the acceptability of living with one's parents (Alwin, 1996)."
