This enables companies to move from single-site databases built around mainframes to a network of locally placed but globally accessible databases which may even be on different classes of computers. This research examines the rise of distributed databases, their advantages and disadvantages, the environment necessary for their implementation, and an examination of how they may be used in the near future.Data processing has evolved through three stages since 1955: decentralized, centralized, and distributed.
