"This paper will argue against outlawing the sale of disposable diapers. Some environmentalists have recently claimed that disposable diapers are a major cause of the growing problem of garbage pollution on this planet. Because of this view, there have been efforts to ban the use of disposables and to force people to return to the use of washable cloth diapers which can be recycled. An example of this can be seen in the December 1989 proposal by Governor Madeleine M. Kunin of Vermont to outlaw disposable diapers in her state ("In Vermont" 22). Despite all this official attention to the issue, however, there is no evidence that disposable diapers contribute more to the earth's environmental problems than any other form of garbage.
