This paper contends that although there exist valid arguments on both sides of this issue, democracy is not necessary for a developmental state within the parameters as it will be defined in this paper.From the Paper:
"Democracy and the Developmental State Introduction The question of whether democracy is a necessary precondition for a truly developmental state is one of the most important issues confronting developing economies in the non-Western world in the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. In this paper I contend that, although there exist valid arguments on both sides of this issue, democracy is not necessary for a developmental state within the parameters as it will be defined in this paper.
