This paper discusses death investigations. It describes the different types of deaths that investigators have to deal with, including suicide, accidental death, and homicide. It includes examples. The paper also takes into account the different strategies that detectives use in resolving a death investigation.
From the Paper:
"There are also two types of non-criminal homicide: Excusable and Justifiable. Excusable homicide includes death that resulted from an absolute accident or mistake. It results from an act that normally would not cause death, if the act was exercised with ordinary caution, but because of the victim's negligence it resulted in death. An example of this would be a person who runs out in front of a moving car. Justifiable homicide is a type of death that resulted from self-defense. An example of this type of death would be a person who posed an imminent deadly threat to another, and was killed because of this."
