Cultural Values and Personal Ethics As we move further into the new century, trends in cultural values within the country affect our lives. Those of us who come into contact with both financial institutions and potential and existing customers on a regular basis know that there is a problem emerging within our society at a remarkable pace. We have witnessed on more occasions that we want to recall that professional institutions stress productivity and profit over the benefit of the customers. Moreover, the message that they deliver to the customers is that they, the businesses, are working in the best interests of the customers and are their active representatives in the business community (Ortega, 1999; Hightower, 2002). All too often these days, we see this same message delivered in the public and private environments.
