This paper demonstrates through examples, how acts of racial harassment have resulted in a discussion of corporate responsibility and citizenship regarding diversity initiatives. It examines how it is the responsibility of leaders and other managers to take action to correct any outstanding issues in regards to diversity, racism and other discriminatory acts. It shows how establishing open lines of communication and expression of cultural identities and differences can promote growth and development of strong relationships and can eliminate distractions and stereotypes. It looks at how employees that work in culturally diverse environments are likely to reap great rewards from corporate initiatives that promote diversity, cultural identity awareness and education and as a result, new organizational boundaries will be defined and employee growth and productivity will increase.

"Corporate citizenship is defined by the willingness to engage employees in positive experiences that facilitate employee relationships and encourage the acquisition of knowledge of other cultures and differences. Organizations that practice corporate citizenship are willing to take risks and establish policies and procedures that are based on ethical principles. Of particular importance is the recognition of diversity and its outcomes for employees. By acknowledging differences in skills, talents, and cultures, corporations are fostering growth and commitment to their organizations: "Many companies are going to unusual lengths to address the needs and concerns of their various stakeholders, groups that have a stake in or are impacted by a company's activities" (Johansson 183). Corporate citizenship facilitates positive outcomes for personal growth, productivity, and profitability."
