Discusses models of deviance and criminality and a Canadian case.
1,350 words (approx. 5.4 pages) | 2 sources | 2005 United States

Paper Summary:

This is a paper referring to an introductory course text addressing various models of deviance and criminality. It then looks at a known media reported Canadian case involving a person of no criminal record who abducted, killed and mutilated a Toronto child.

From the Paper:

"Tittle's theory puts together a number of different models that have to do with anomie, Marxist conflict, social control theory, labelling, deterrence, and routine activity theories. (Vold et al, 307) Tittle thought that all of these theories were useful. (1995) However, no one of them, by itself, seemed to give a full picture as to what causes people to commit serious offences. For Charles Tittle, a possible solution was to take the most helpful parts of several theories that were helpful in understanding deviant behaviour, and to make them a new model."
