"Looking back on the conflict that I earlier described as being between John and James within the context of my one-time place of employ, a number of things occur to me. I am struck by my own limited active role in the debate, that is to say that I had no active role in the conflict. I am also struck by the rapidity of the escalation of the debate. A minor conflict between two employees, with its roots in a parking dispute, erupted into an argumentative conflict that quickly consumed the very large staff of the place where I worked.
