This paper discusses, in short, the history of the Cold War and gives a detailed account of the Cuban missile crisis. It explores the international relations between Russian, American and Cuban governments. The author also accounts the cause and effect of President Kennedy's strategy in handling the crisis.

"Although Cuba is only a small island off the coast of Florida, it had a strong motivation to accept missiles from the Soviets. Earlier in 1961, the U.S. had tried to attempt an overthrow of the Cuban dictator, Fidel Castro, in an unsuccessful event called the "Bay of Pigs." This was a U.S. inspired attack, which used American trained exiles to attack the Cuban army. This ended in a devastating disaster for the Americans because most of them ended up dying or being captured. Khrushchev and Castro both knew that the Americans would attempt another overthrow in the future, making Castro's decision to accept the Soviet missiles irresistible."
