↶ Look Inside

Paper Summary:

This paper discusses how Christine de Pisan was a woman who stood alone in her time. It discusses how women were treated in the medieval period and how she managed to overcome these limitations and become an accomplished writer in her own right.

From the Paper:

"Christine de Pizan was able to develop into a flourishing writer in a time when women had no lawful rights and were measured to be their father's or husband's personal possession. Her life was an outcome of some good luck, as well as bad luck she underwent. Her initial luck was that she was the daughter of an educated surgeon. Her father was a graduate of the University of Bologna, where he carried on to be a lecturer in astrology, until he was chosen as an escritoire and astrologer to King Charles V (Willard, 48)."
