This paper discusses Mao's ideology and social movements in China.
Written in 2005; 900 words; 2 sources; $ 35.95
Paper Summary:
The paper explains that Mao was not successful in bringing forth the highly egalitarian and socialistic views of Stalin in his ideology for the new Chinese government. The paper discusses how the ideology of the common good and selfless service did not go very well, especially when it did not portend the results that Mao had expected by creating the industrialized society he had dreamed of. The paper shows how in this manner, Mao subordinated economic polices to discourage class struggles, but the system did not work.
From the Paper:
"China's Great Leap Forward is by far more of a economic factor in Mao's policy, rather than the social vision that Meisner presents initially in his arguments for higher production after the First Five Year Plan. The issue of severe economic imbalances between the rural agrarian and urban industrial centers relates a far greater sense of economic disparity, which resulted in the greater industrial output in comparison to the low farming output in the early '50s."
