2,312 words (approx. 9.2 pages) | 6 sources | APA | 2005 United States

Paper Summary:

This report examines how we view contemporary organizations. In today's technologically advanced and highly competitive business spectrum, we see the business world through the eyes of the participants. Business leaders can be a unique focus point. The business leaders in this modern-day environment have added pressures to contend with. They must deal with all-new challenges in regard to organizational behavior and development. This report, therefore, addresses some potential tools that a chief executive officer, as well as any top-level manager, has at his or her disposal when managing uncertainty, change, conflict, and the many other complexities of our 21st century business and organizational life. The report is written as though the reader was a new CEO of a company in need of the various organizational tools available to attune to the hypothetical situation. Today, business leaders and organizations should focus on meeting the demands of their customers, partners, vendors, and suppliers, as well as the investors and many other stakeholders. The paper includes illustrations.

From the Paper:

"I am of the school of thought that a "CEO is a CEO" or a "manager is a manger." This can be translated into the idea of once a person has managed a business successfully they are more than likely also capable of managing any other business. This includes businesses that may be in another industry. If one decides to lead he can be extremely effective in spite of the industry. "In June 2000, John Bogle, founder and former CEO of The Vanguard Group, spoke about leadership at Wharton. He concluded his talk by quoting a colleague who once remarked that "when all is said and done, it really comes down to this: People are leaders because they choose to lead.""(Business Wire, 2004) Managing a business entails managing change and there are certain aspects of leadership that help manage these changes."
