Thomas (8:685) defines the eye disease glaucoma as:

Disease of eye characterized by increase in intraocular pressure, which results in atrophy of optical nerve and blindness. There are two types: primary, which occurs without known cause, and secondary, in which there is an increase in intraocular pressure as a result of other eye disease.
