"Oppression is achieved through many forms. With European colonization of much of the world, one of the primary means by which its domination was carried out was through the educational. Education was used to normalize oppression by bringing conquered subject populations within the realm of European socialization, with the implicit recognition of the superior European and civilization. It often came through the literature glorifying the European homeland and noble European, with references to the savages in need of civilizing. This understanding came through the segregation of schools. Whatever the form, education has been used to normalize the oppression of the subject populations."
