Canada's Water

The paper is for a second year geomorphology course. The topic is river systems and the sub-topic is flooding and floodplains. The major argument of the essay is that floods and floodplains were very important in a geomorphological sense because flood waters transport sediment and other materials into other areas outside of the river system.

"Water is a defining feature of Canadian geography. Canada is a very watery country. For example, in Hydrology of Canada Environment Canada's Water Survey notes, Canada's surface water resources are considerable, an estimated 9 percent of the world's renewable water supply. This statement is just talking about fresh water. It says nothing about salt water. If all of these factors are considered Canada would be one of the wateriest countries on earth. The fact that there is so much water in Canada means that water is one of the most important determinants of geomorphology in Canada."
