Paper Summary:

This paper examines, briefly ,the Brown vs. Board of Education court case, which challenged the doctrine of "separate but equal" in the United States public education system. The case was brought in 1954. The paper looks at the history of the struggle of civil rights activists for equal, mixed education and how this case was a turning point.

From the Paper:

"Brown v. Board of Education was one of the most important decisions every made by the Supreme Court. The decision broke down barriers for the African American community in the United States that were long over due. When people remember this case, they usually think back to a little African American girl who's parents just wanted her to have the right to go to the school closes to their home. It just so happened that that school was an all white school. The truth of the matter is that the story of Brown v. Board of Education is far more intricate than most average Americans realize."
