"Bahrain is a small, Middle-Eastern country only about 3 1/2 times the size of Washington, D.C., located on the Persian Gulf. Made up of 33 small islands (Marcic & Puffer, 1994), it is close to Saudia Arabia and Kuwait, and shares religion and some cultural traits with those countries, but unlike those countries has little oil of its own. Instead, it has established itself as a location for petroleum processing and international banking (CIA, 2003). It is more progressive than some of its neighbors; for instance, women in Bahrain have the right to vote. Bahrain has been an ally of the United States in the recent war with Iraq. Its climate is that of a warm desert, with mild winters but hot summers."
