"The University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) is on the western end of the city, separated from Los Angeles proper by Beverly Hills to the East and the Santa Monica Mountains to the North. The area around UCLA has grown greatly over the history of the school, as any film historian can show with reference to the last scene in King Vidor's "The Big Parade" from 1925 as the young man returns from the war and goes up a hill, the hill bare for a great distance. That hill is still along the northwest edge of UCLA and into the area known as Westwood, though it is now covered with apartments and fraternity and sorority houses. The area known as Westwood is one of the busiest entertainment areas in Los Angeles, with more than a dozen movie theaters, a major playhouse, and many restaurants serving the UCLA community."
