"Anne Robert Jacques Turgot was born in Paris in 1727, the third son of a well-respected and well-established family with a history of public service. Before his death in 1781, Turgot would gain a reputation as an economist, philosopher and administrator. His writings have been said to foreshadow those of Smith and Ricardo, while other analysts place him as a substantive link between the physiocrats of the eighteenth century and the modern economists of the nineteenth. This research addresses Turgot's writings on capital, savings and investment, interest, and the role of capitalists and entrepreneurs. A brief survey of later economic writers and their interpretation of Turgot are, also included.
