Amazon.com
An overview of the organizational technology of Amazon.com.
675 words (approx. 2.7 pages) | 4 sources | 2005 United States

Paper Summary:

This paper discusses how Amazon.com is really just a bookstore that has adapted itself to conduct sales and shipping to consumers via the Internet. It looks at how therefore, most of the organizational constructs mirror brick and mortar businesses. It discusses how the main difference is that the technology has been organized to support a completely digital retail sales and fulfillment and maintain a consumer-centric focus.

From the Paper:

"Amazon.com is likely one of the best recognized and one of the most successful online business models in North America, although not necessarily profitable (Konicki para. 3). Delivering product in as quickly as 24 hours from online purchase, Amazon provides an extensive catalog of books, movies, games and music in a range of formats. Deep discounts on new releases and shipping offers provide incentives to many consumers who either cannot or do not want to shop in a brick and mortar location for such items. Amazon.com has built a core business around the ease and accessibility to books, movies, games and music buying, and every screen reflects this. Providing immediate access to countless titles, new releases and hard-to-find favorites, secure online purchasing and fast delivery all are interdependent and support this core business and are emphasized.
