Haitian immigrants, however, do bring with them significant and special problems with which both they and the nation must deal. Not least among these problems are those related to education for Haitian children and adolescents immigrating to the United States. Such problems are especially significant for adolescents who are expected to enter the American educational system at the secondary school level, as such students do not have the luxury of time to become acclimated to and prepared for academic demands of a foreign system."
