"Historically, science has considered "intelligence" as the part of the mind that engages in conscious thinking and problem solving. It was accepted that there was one type of intelligence, focused on conscious, logical thinking. Other factors or methods of thinking were discounted, and the way people were taught in school and in their vocations was through training programs geared to a linear, logical approach. People whose background or heredity was consistent with that system were successful in school, work and academic endeavors because their mental dispositions were a good match ? those whose learning patterns may have been different struggled as they tried to fit the mold."
