"The case in question involves a 45 year-old man named Tom, who was diagnosed with AIDS approximately 15 years ago. Prior to his diagnosis, it appears that Tom was a healthy and vibrant individual with a relatively sound medical history. Tom has been taking antiretroviral drug therapies for several years to reduce the presence of the AIDS virus, and his health has maintained a relatively steady state as a result of this comprehensive treatment. Furthermore, Tom has utilized herbal remedies as well as marijuana as a means of promoting a healthier appetite, since his antiretroviral drug therapies have reduced his appetite to some degree. However, in recent weeks, Tom has experienced some of the more complicated symptoms that might indicate that the AIDS virus has advanced in its progression, including cold and flu-like symptoms that have not diminished."
