"Perhaps the most compelling question that arises from reading 'Kokoro' is 'Why did Sensei's life have to turn out the way it did?' Sensei seems to believe that the course of his life was destiny. Yet one can see clearly how the choices that Sensei made led to the events of his life. The question then becomes 'Is this not what destiny means?' That acts that seem to be of free will are in fact hard wired into who we are and are therefore inevitable ... "
