The paper discusses how minority or financially disadvantaged students need assistance in order to attend college. The paper compares enrollment data for such students with mentors with enrollment data for a group of students who enrolled the previous year, when the mentoring program had not yet been in place. This researcher hypothesizes that the effect of the mentoring program will show a statistically significant change in the number of students enrolling, especially those from minority families. The paper concludes that the study could not show a definite relationship between this program and improved enrollment in the Merced Community College District (MCCD). This study, however, does open doors to other studies which may be more helpful in assessing the effectiveness of these programs for students considering college for the first time.
