Paper Summary:

This paper explores the traditional Native American concept of finding one's path or destiny necessary to achieve the perfection of that soul. The paper explains their belief that the soul is a direct creation of the Great Spirit and achieving its perfection therefore leads to a much closer relation between man and the sacred entity of nature. The use of various natural hallucinogenic substances as aids in achieving these visions is also discussed. Lastly, the author analyzes the tribal dances of the Native Americans and the symbolism of circles in their culture. This paper includes figures.

"The images and colorful stories of many Native American traditions continue to amaze new audiences around the globe. Many Native American cultures embody a much different view of the conceptions of the human soul and how that soul progresses. Unlike many Western religions which view humankind as a special creature out of God's arsenal of creatures. Along with that, many traditions hold a special honor for those who aim to perfect the soul. Yet, only sacred visions, and "seeing" can produce an image of what could be, or what already is, in order to influence an individual to modify his or her own behaviors, rather than relying on traditions or dogmas. It is these individual visions that are the sacred; tailored for each and every individual who pursues them."
