2,091 words (approx. 8.4 pages) | 5 sources | MLA | 2009 United States

Paper Summary:

This paper examines how the human body is an intricate machine composed of various cells, organs, and systems, all of which are controlled by the brain, and how the human brain serves as the central core of the nervous system. Quite possibly the most interesting and complex organ, the brain controls every aspect of the human body, and without it a person cannot survive. In order to truly understand the behavior of the brain, the paper looks at the brain's structure as well as its functional anatomy. Brain cancer and tumors are also briefly discussed.

From the Paper:

"The prefrontal cortex, located in the front of the brain, below the forehead, is the most evolved part of the human brain and is what differentiates human beings from lesser developed animals. This part of the brain controls attention span, perseverance, judgment and decision making, planning and organizational skills, impulse control, problem solving and critical thinking, and empathy. It gives people the ability to learn from past experiences and mistakes as well as the ability to feel and physically express their emotions. People with problems in this area of the brain commonly show a lack of organizational skills, constant procrastination, short attention spans, and a disconnect from their emotions. "
