A discussion of the history and beliefs of the Mormons in America.
Written in 2009; 2,815 words; 6 sources; MLA; $ 83.95
Paper Summary:
This paper discusses the Mormons, one of the largest communities of faith in the U.S., and their unique subculture in modern American society. The writer provides an overview of their history, their religion and their religious customs, and explains how their beliefs differ from that of mainstream Christianity. Some of the most controversial aspects of the Latter-Day Saints are also described. Their health code, dietary restrictions, marriage customs and traditions, including the traditional role assigned to women, all connote a subculture status for their community.
From the Paper:
"However, like most American believers, the members of the Latter-Day Saints consider themselves as Christians who follow all of the teachings of Jesus Christ as found in the New Testament. Although most traditional Christian groups do not consider Mormons to be true Christians, they are nonetheless very closely identified with Christianity. The word "saints" is used in the New Testament to mean "church members, but the LDS sees these members as those who fell away from the truth of Jesus Christ shortly after Christianity was founded" sometime in the 1st century B.C.E." (Smith, 145). As to size, the members of the Latter-Day Saints only make up about or less than two percent of the entire American population which clearly places them in a subcultural context."
