6,665 words (approx. 26.7 pages) | 8 sources | MLA | 2009

Paper Summary:

This paper is an all-embracing examination of the life and ideas of Mircea Eliade (1907-1986), a Romanian-born historian of religion, a brilliant author and an astute interpreter of world religion. Eliade, the author relates, explored the problem with the ways in which human beings relate to the Sacred. The paper extensively assesses Eliade's investigation of the whole scope of religious history that resulted in his belief that the human soul has a thirst that cannot be quenched by the things of this world.

From the Paper:

"Christ spoke the language of his people, simple Aramaic for simple fishermen and wanderers and herdsmen. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) stumbled forth from a high cold cave with the light of the Divine shining in his eyes and babbling about an angel who spoke to him in poetic Arabic. Moses spoke Hebrew and reached his order-starved listeners through the use of Law. The Sacred manifests Itself in a way that can be understood to a certain extent. But it is not all warmth and clear-cut Divine direction."
