"The balance of the painting is not symmetrical. Rather balance is achieved in the way that the various sections and forms interact in a stylistic and artistic sense. In other words, the balance is created through the interaction of the dark and light aspects and the relationship of the forms to one another.
"This is an extremely large painting, measuring 11 feet 6 inches by 25 feet 8 inches. The size of this work is not arbitrary but relates directly to its motivation and intention, which is to create an artwork that adequately depicts or presents the horror of the attack on Guernica."
