Paper Summary:

This paper examines the textual origins of Christian mission theology, citing the Old Testament and New Testaments in addition to other religious writings. The essay addresses five general aspects of mission theology, which ask the following questions; What are the relevant Old Testament and New Testament texts related to mission? How does the nature of God relate to mission? How does mission theology relate to other aspects of theology? What are key themes and motifs of mission theology? How does this mission theology relate to (1) a missionary (2) church leaders (3) lay people not in full-time ministry. Each of these queries are answered within the paper with quotes from various religious texts. According to the paper, the development of mission theology has a long and well developed history, from the scripture to the modern incarnation of lay mission work. The paper concludes by showing how the modern context of mission theology is essential to the endurance of the faith.

From the Paper:

"Though it is clear that mission theology is more or less emphasized in variant denominations of Christianity most would stress that the mission, for and individual and a faith is not only the ultimate sacrifice but the ultimate spiritual joy. While some theological reasoning stresses that mission on an everyday scale, i.e. witnessing to those around you in your normal life will suffice, others stress that mission abroad is the only manner in which full recognition of the theology of mission can be achieved."
