This paper discusses two behavioral trends in organizations and how the first impacts the second. The writer explains how collapses such as that of Enron have stressed the necessity to incorporate ethical standards into decision making. However, managerial decisions to use new technology to improve employee performance, while undoubtedly successful, have triggered an increase of stress in the workplace. "When ethical decision-making meets the real world, the influence of ethics on decision-making will mirror the actions of leadership within the organization. Leaders in an organization are under pressure from their stockholders to continually improve performance. New technology provides an avenue to improve employee performance; however, this decision puts pressure on the work force. Being under pressure often improves performance. It can be a good thing. But when demands and pressures become excessive, they lead to stress."
