Paper Summary:
This paper discusses cyberactivism, or online activism, which has arisen from the effectiveness of the Internet as a tool for mobilizing support, raising money, and spreading influence. The author describes how activists around the world have taken advantage of the Internet's ability to disseminate information quickly, cheaply and efficiently, and explains some of the ways in which this is done. The author also gives several examples of cyberactivism, and explains that perhaps the most important part of cyberactivism is the ability to organize and mobilize an activist group in a very short space of time.
From the Paper:
"In order to organize a group in "cyberactivsm," one would need something like a website that addressed a certain issue at hand. This issue should be important to the reader and be one that draws strong feelings from these activists. Another way would be to begin or join in a message board, possibly one that speaks of a particular subject. Once these activists are organized, they are ready for mobilization, or to take action."
