Paper Summary:
This paper deals with the subject of angels, describing how writers, artists, poets and film makers have been inspired by them. It also provides historical background on the subject and explains some misconceptions that people have regarding angels. The paper also states how the Church teaches about their existence.
From the Paper:
"The Church teaches the definite existence of angels: "The existence of the spiritual, non-corporeal beings that sacred scripture usually calls "angels" is a truth of faith. The witness of scripture is clear as the unanimity of tradition." That means belief in angels is ultimately an act of faith and thus they are presumed to be present as they were created by God as humans were created by God.
"The most common misconception about angelic beings is that we become one when we die. It would make a nice story, but it is not true. There is nothing said in the Bible that suggests we become angels when we die. The Bible tells us that God created angels as separate beings than humans. The angels were created to serve God, and to serve man. When we die we will be given a new body, but not the body of an angel: "The Christian who unites his own death to that of Jesus views it as a step towards him and an entrance into everlasting life. (...) Go forth, Christian soul, from this world in the name of God the almighty Father, who created you (...). May you life in peace this day, may your home be with God in Zion, with Mary, the virgin Mother of God, with Joseph, and all the angels and saints. (...)" If you have asked Christ to be your Savior, you will be given a new body and life in heaven with Him for eternity."
