"The beats slammed out, reverb basic on the clunky machine, and she tried to remember a world before this song. She and Katherine had danced to this every night in the dorm their last year of college, pizza from that good place downtown in one hand, sprite sloshing out of its can in another, on top of the makeship sofa rectified of an unused bed and mattress. In pjs and hockey shirts, they'd spun around, fingers dancing to the piano line, singing to each other in fake British accents, dreaming of a love like this to come. Right now, against that jukebox, she finally listened carefully to the last verse. She suddenly felt nauseous."
